RAC Arena

In an effort to revitalise and renew an old and abandoned area in the city centre of Perth, the RAC Arena project was brought to life. Today, it serves as a neofuturistic entertainment and sporting arena used mostly for basketball matches—it can also to host a range of musical, cultural, and sporting events.

Our team provided civil engineering services for this project, as well as an $8 million forward works remediation and services package. The arena features a retractable roof that can open in seven minutes, allowing natural light to flood the centre court. It has a very flexible design, allowing for crowds of up to 12,000 in concert mode and up to 15,500 in tennis mode, or it can be closed down for an intimate concert with 3,000 people. The arena can accommodate shows with a centre stage or end stage and performances in the round such as motocross, equestrian and ice shows.

The inner-city project incorporated a number of challenging engineering factors including drainage treatment, remediation, bulk earthworks and service diversion. Now, the community will have a modern facility to experience local and international entertainment to its fullest potential.
