Creating a framework for making the right investment decisions around university assets

Spread across three campuses in Melbourne, RMIT University sought our help in making the right investment decisions on the upkeep and replacement of assets across their campuses.

After mapping and assessing the condition, capacity, and compliance of key assets, we developed an asset management plan (AMP) covering all key campus infrastructure. We encountered a few challenges during the process, such as obtaining and compiling existing services plans, locating old services, identifying redundant services in-ground, and obtaining operational information on the type and capacity of services in each building. However, by using large scale asset data capture tools and cloud-based mapping solutions, we overcame these challenges and provided analyses that will support confident decision-making across the whole asset life cycle.

With the AMP in place, RMIT can make evidence-based decisions that will optimize asset management and support strategic and financial plans for all of their campuses over the next decade.
