A second pair of eyes at one of Australia’s largest iron ore mines

The Roy Hill Mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia delivers over 60 million tonnes of iron ore per year to international markets and employs thousands of people. Several new on-site facilities were required as necessary upgrades to the mine, and we were brought in to provide a 60% third-party peer review of the designs. Our goal? To identify potential issues for functionality and operability.

As a relatively new mine at the time (opening in 2014) and owned by a company without any other mining operations, we took an especially thorough and demonstrative approach to our review. To generate comparisons, our team visited another major Western Australia iron ore mine with a comparable mining fleet. We liaised with the mining fleet and equipment suppliers who provided valuable insights for new workshop operability and fit-out.

Our team developed a formal report which was issued to Roy Hill Holdings and the contracted designer (Brookfield Multiplex) allowing for movement onto the next phase of implementation.
