Sunshine Coast University Hospital

Aging amenities and a growing population meant Queensland urgently needed to update its healthcare facilities. Our job? Providing specialist advice for the design of a brand new tertiary public hospital located on a greenfield site.

The scale of the major project meant it was delivered in phases, and our involvement spanned six years and extensive stakeholder engagement. Just getting essential services to site required co-ordination with the energy supplier, water authority, state road authority, and four council departments. The subsurface utility work alone needed 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) of inground piping to the precinct.

With an emphasis on research and learning, the 160,000 square metre (1.72 million square foot) facility includes a science, academic, and research centre,  a public and private hospital, and mental health facilities.

Attracting awards for innovation, sustainability, and construction, the hospital design fulfils the brief for a world-class health facility for Queenslanders.
