As Townsville’s Northern Beaches continues to grow, Townsville City Council is investing in infrastructure that supports more connected, accessible communities. The Lionel Turner Drive Extension forms part of this vision, creating a new trunk road between Salonika Circuit and North Shore Boulevard. The corridor is expected to improve access to emerging residential areas, reduce pressure on existing roads, and support safer, more efficient travel.
We’re delivering an integrated design for the project, bringing together civil, transportation, and specialist disciplines. Our team is leading road design using 12D modeling, alongside traffic and transport analysis informed by Signalised and Unsignalised Intersection Design and Research Aid (SIDRA) modeling. We are also designing a new intersection at North Shore Boulevard to support safe and efficient network connections.
Our specialists are providing stormwater, flooding, and drainage design in line with the Queensland Urban Drainage Manual and Council requirements. This includes hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and culvert design to respond to local conditions. Pavement and geotechnical engineers are supporting the roadway design through site investigations and slope stability analysis, helping inform practical and buildable solutions.
We are also coordinating public utilities, including service relocations and potholing investigations, to support integration with existing infrastructure. Environmental considerations have been explored through desktop assessments and early scoping, helping identify approval pathways and key constraints like vegetation and waterways.
The design also incorporates road safety audits, landscape and urban design, and lighting and electrical services. Together, these elements support a cohesive and functional corridor that aligns with Council’s long-term vision.
Through structured project management, regular design reviews, and close collaboration with Council, we are supporting the delivery of a corridor that is expected to improve network performance and enable future growth in the Northern Beaches.
