Engineering solutions and urban transformation meet where roads and rail converge, anchoring a new neighbourhood
Cities are dynamic, constantly changing and responding to people’s needs and wants. Developers like LaSalle Investment Management earn their living by taking the risk to anticipate and respond with building projects like their Valley Metro Redevelopment in Fortitude Valley project. Located in Brisbane’s inner-city at one of its busiest transport, pedestrian and commercial corridors, they saw an opportunity to provide accommodation and services where people converge.
Our challenge was designing the two-tower residential and commercial complex to integrate with the existing Fortitude Valley railway station, Brisbane’s third busiest, and the Clem 7 road tunnel. Through careful research, our structural engineers developed a range of advanced solutions for supporting the new buildings. Our traffic engineers also had to be innovative in addressing traffic and pedestrian flow around the site’s multiple street frontages, an on-site public car park, and other transport infrastructure.
The Valley Metro Redevelopment is transformative—turning an underutilised, tired inner-city area into one of Brisbane’s most vibrant mixed-use precincts. We’re proud not only to provide design solutions for one building complex, but also to help create a neighbourhood people call home.
