Energising the school community with facility addition support

Yanchep Lagoon Primary School, located in Perth's northern suburbs, needed refurbishment upgrades to accommodate a growing population. They set out on a staged construction project that includes a new kindergarten and pre-primary block, teaching space, library, covered assembly, parking, and architecturally-designed aviary. Our job? We supported the construction through electrical design documentation for the school, and we completed design and service work while the school remained open and functioning.

The new design includes an improved power supply as well as new in-ground electrical and communication infrastructure, and our team had to remove or redirect existing services to accommodate new layouts and ensure an operable system. The task proved to be complicated though—there was an extensive presence of asbestos elements in the existing conduits and pits which could not be reused or accessed.

We worked closely with the contractor to respond to findings on site, documenting the solution and safeguarding the school's daily activities. The finished school design will accommodate around 30% of growth in pupil numbers. This work helped to improve the Yanchep Lagoon Primary School’s physical community, but it achieved a goal that was far more meaningful—a sense of community.
