As Côte d'Ivoire advances their climate and renewable energy ambitions, green hydrogen presents an opportunity to decarbonize key industries, attract investment, strengthen energy security, and create new economic opportunities. Due to this, the country is in a strong position to play a leading role in Africa's energy transition.
Working with national institutions and the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL), we are supporting the development of Côte d'Ivoire's National Green Hydrogen Strategy. The goal is to create a practical pathway to establish a sustainable green hydrogen sector and accelerate the country's industrial transformation.
Drawing on our experience supporting hydrogen strategies and energy transition initiatives across Africa, we are assessing energy resources, industrial demand, infrastructure readiness, water availability, policy and regulatory landscape, financing opportunities, and export potential. Through geographic information system (GIS) based mapping, market assessments and economic and financial modeling, we are also identifying priority applications for green hydrogen for both domestic and export markets. Additionally, we’re developing an investment-ready pipeline of priority pilot and commercial project concepts, supported by pre-feasibility-level analysis.
The work will support the development of a national strategy that aligns with Côte d'Ivoire's sustainability targets and energy objectives. Together with a phased deployment roadmap through 2050, it will enable policy and regulatory measures as well as identify priority actions, finance needs, and pathways for domestic market development and future export opportunities.
