Côte d’Ivoire Energy Transition Support

Committed to meeting their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, Côte d'Ivoire is targeting a 20 percent reduction in energy use in buildings and industry along with the addition of over one gigawatt of renewable capacity by 2030.

To support these targets, the European Union and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) are co-financing the Promotion of Employment and Market Development in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ProFERE II) project, implemented by GiZ. As part of this initiative, GiZ has engaged our team to provide technical expertise across three key assignments.

One involves strengthening energy management capacities by assisting the Direction Générale de l’Énergie (DGE). We are supporting the operationalization of energy management committees in public institutions and delivering targeted training to regional energy focal points based on ISO 50001 standards.

Our team is also working with the Ministry of Energy and relevant partners to define technical standards, develop inspection protocols, and design a capacity-building program for inspectors. This will help lay the groundwork for a safer and more reliable solar market.

Additionally, in close collaboration with DGE, we are identifying and structuring bankable renewable energy and energy efficiency projects to access international climate finance mechanisms.

These interventions are designed to help Côte d'Ivoire meet their climate commitments and also build long-term institutional capacity and stimulate private sector engagement.
