Supporting the Government of Nigeria in achieving their energy transition

Committed to the collective Paris Agreement with ambitious climate actions, the Government of Nigeria has set the goal to reduce emissions by 47 percent by 2050 with the help of international assistance. However, insufficient access to modern energy services has been slowing down their progress toward meeting climate objectives, especially in rural areas.

To address these challenges, the European Union (EU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) engaged us to support the Government of Nigeria’s energy transition. We are providing services to improve energy sector governance and the operational efficiency of governmental institutions that will be involved in the energy transition process. Our team is organizing knowledge sharing activities and capacity building workshops for the Department of Renewable Energy and Rural Power Access and other relevant agencies under the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Environment. Additionally, we are collecting, monitoring, and analyzing quality energy data from EU-funded energy access projects in the country. Additionally, we are working with the Government to improve the Nigerian legal and regulatory framework of the energy sector to accelerate their energy transition process.

Through these efforts, the Government of Nigeria can better enable their clean energy transition and empower national communities through improved capacity to access sustainable energy.
