GCCA+ Seychelles Climate Change Project

The Global Climate Change Alliance+ (GCCA+) is the second installment of a worldwide initiative by the European Union that facilitates the global sharing of knowledge around climate change. As part of the GCCA+ program, this project contributes to the goal that the people, economy, and environment of Seychelles are able to adapt and develop resilience to climate change and its effects—thereby safeguarding the sustainable development of the country. Specifically, by providing technical assistance for the implementation of the Seychelles Climate Change Strategy.

Climate change is an important topic for the Seychelles. Rises in sea level, temperature increases, weather changes, and accelerated coastal erosion are all impacts of a changing environment. An environment which is so important for the country.

We have three climate change experts on staff: a full time Team Leader based in Seychelles, and then two part-time staff (a Climate Finance Expert and a Climate Change Capacity Building Expert). A pool of international and local experts for capacity development support and the sharing of knowledge from other countries around the world is also involved. Over the course of the project (2017-2020), they will help strengthen the climate change policy framework by improving climate governance, enhancing capacity to access and monitor climate finance, and building capacity for the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change (MEECC) as well as other key stakeholders that will lead climate action.
