North Macedonia Digital and Media Harmonization with EU Acquis

North Macedonia is taking decisive steps toward bringing their legislation more in line with the European Union acquis—or body of common laws, rights, and obligations—under Chapter 10, namely in the fields of digital transformation and media. Transposing key EU regulations, including the Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, and Artificial Intelligence Act, can greatly benefit national law. Following the country’s first intergovernmental conference held in 2022, the momentum for reform was stronger than ever.

We are working with the Ministry of Digital Transformation to advance the harmonization of North Macedonia’s legislation on digital for the public administration and for national media. Our work includes gap analyses, regulatory impact assessments, and consultations to support inclusive and transparent progress in the digital transformation, and support in the creation of a roadmap for the digitalization of the public sector. We are also helping in the design of a national media strategy aligned with the European Media Freedom Act, in cooperation with relevant interested parties. Lastly, to enhance the capacity of the Ministry, we are delivering comprehensive digital skills training for civil servants and citizens through a dedicated e-learning platform.

Through these efforts, North Macedonia is creating a more inclusive, secure, and skilled society, laying the foundation for sustainable growth and lasting future impacts.
