67 Street and 30 Avenue Roundabout

New developments on the north end of Red Deer brought higher traffic volumes and an increased need for functionality. To accommodate this, a roundabout needed to be built.

The initial roundabout construction included two complete circulating lanes and services 34,000 vehicles, on average, since it opened in 2016. The expandable design is planned for widening to a third circulating lane, then capable of accommodating over 71,000 vehicles per day in the distant future at the 188,000-population horizon (approximately 2040).

In addition to the roundabout, this major project includes three kilometres of arterial roadway construction, five kilometres of deep utilities (storm, sanitary, and water), and major shallow utility coordination, including relocation of a high-pressure gas line. Our team provided a functional report, detailed design, tender and construction management services for this project with a construction value of over $25 million. Due to the size of the project, the work was staged over two construction seasons and was initiated in June 2015 and completed in October 2016.

Habitants of the surrounding communities can now enjoy functional travel to popular businesses and amenities—as well as the appealing design and beautification included in this project.
