With a tight schedule and a historic area, we built a luxury rental apartment that fit the needs of the community

Building a luxury rental apartment in one of London’s heritage districts

When an opportunity presented itself in London’s prestigious Old South neighborhood, the Tricar Group jumped at the chance to bring their luxury rental units to the area—doing so would create housing diversity in the area. With a tight timeline and a community questioning an apartment building coming to their heritage district, there were some hurdles to overcome.

Moving away from single family detached homes to a luxury rental apartment was a difficult idea for the area—the heritage community didn’t want a modern building disturbing the look and feel of their historic neighborhood. Keeping this in mind, our architects and landscape team were able to alleviate community concerns by working with neighbors on the design, ensuring the look of the building blended in to the context of the surrounding area and respected the past. With some tweaks to the plans, the community was on board. In addition to designing a luxury building, we incorporated bicycle storage on site and ensured municipal garbage collection would be available to future tenants.

With the first residents moving in the fall of 2015, Tricar gave the community what they asked for: a luxury building that enhances the neighborhood and diversifies it too.
