Abbotsford Police Department Headquarters - Addition and Renovation

Since the amalgamation of the Districts of Abbotsford and Matsqui, the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) had outgrown their headquarters and has expanded into numerous other facilities. We collaborated with them to renovate and expand their headquarters into a facility that will create healthy and productive work environments, provide distinct public, private and secure spaces, and address future growth and maintenance needs.

The renovation of the existing building will enhance and integrate the flow of the existing spaces into the new addition. The main goal is to streamline staff work processes and interoperability at all levels of the new and existing building. This is accomplished by a thoughtful planning of spaces and efficient space configuration and circulation. The new addition includes a new 30-bed cell block unit, showcasing improved prisoner management standards to provide a safe and secure environment for both detainees and staff. The design approach includes gender-sensitive and suicide prevention considerations. The parkade will provide 52 parking spaces for emergency vehicles and staff, streamlining access and exit functions and improve operational efficiency.

Upon completion, this state-of-the-art policing facility will accommodate this growing organization, enabling officers to conduct their duties in a safe environment while providing a welcoming community presence.
