A terminal expansion with natural light, increased security, and that supports local businesses
As one of the fastest growing airports in the Maritimes, the Fredericton International Airport (YFC) has seen year-over-year growth and was operating at over 50 per cent of its original design. Our client was looking to embark on a significant air terminal expansion and renovation project.
We provided detailed design and construction management services to support the project. Working with a low existing ceiling structure, we incorporated lots of natural light into the design resulting in a bright modern facility. The expansion includes additional baggage handling and passenger holding rooms on the airside of the terminal and upgraded entrances and canopies on the groundside of the terminal as well as updated facilities and layout in the existing terminal building. Since airport operations needed to be maintained during construction, the work was carefully planned and staged to minimize any potential for disruption.
Ultimately, our design aids in traveler comfort, allowing for increased flights and people in the terminal building with better flow of pedestrian traffic. The terminal design was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
