This infrastructure project is essential to the short and long term growth and prosperity of the local community in the Grande Prairie region. How so? By increasing the plant’s process capacity by about 13 million liters per day while meeting stringent effluent criteria. The upgrade helps reduce costs for local families and businesses, and promotes healthier aquatic ecosystems and improved water quality.
Our design included influent flow metering upgrades, installation of a third influent screw pump, upgrades to the existing flow equalization facility, and two new biological nutrient removal bioreactors with blower upgrades. Also included were two new 31 meter diameter circular secondary clarifiers, a rotary drum thickener, a 14.5 meter diameter digested sludge storage tank equipped with a sludge cooling system, a new centrifuge sludge dewatering building, dry polymer preparation, and pumping equipment.
We were also the primary controls and SCADA integrator, and performed the PLC programming, communications configuration, and SCADA upgrades.
What this means is that we had the opportunity to design capacity and reliability in wastewater infrastructure for today and future generations. Now that’s exciting!
