Investing in the bright future of Alberta education

To support the education of 7,700 future Alberta students, we drew on our expertise in new school builds and modernizations as well as ideas from other exceptional projects. This assignment involved a public private partnership (P3) to design, build, finance, and maintain 12 new schools that were all turned over to the Alberta Government at one time.

We provided architecture, landscape architecture, and structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering answers that created bright, fun, and comfortable mini-communities for Alberta’s students. We took a proactive, locally-focused approach by setting up teams in offices near the building sites, helping us deliver timely, responsive designs and support our commissioning services as the schools were completed.

Considering the long-term impact of this major investment into Alberta’s future, we wanted to achieve the best value. We included energy efficient design to minimize environmental impact and designed high efficiency heating plants to reduce energy consumption and to meet the latest LEED sustainability standards. By using displacement ventilation, we were able to reduce the circulation of airborne germs and bacteria, improving indoor air quality and potentially reducing absenteeism due to illness.

Sustainable growth and energy efficiency are important to Alberta’s future, and it was essential to incorporate these practices in the places where our young citizens learn.
