The University of Manitoba wanted to strengthen their support for behavioral management studies in the Asper School of Business. The University selected the ground floor of the Drake Centre for transformation into the David Dreman Behavioural Management Lab.
Working with faculty researchers and the dean of the business school, our team delivered a custom layout featuring labs, observation and debrief rooms, and integrated audiovisual systems. The renovation included transforming the areas previously dedicated to a cafeteria, kitchen, and office, as well as part of a corridor, into necessary lab and support spaces.
The highly technical lab is designed to facilitate research on a range of behaviors including areas of consumer behavior, business administration, finance, supply chain management, and actuarial science. Two computer labs enable online data collection, while a flexible simulation space can replicate retail, office, and other settings. Four connected breakout rooms accommodate focus groups, interviews, and team-based simulations. The space also accommodates eye-tracking and audiovisual capabilities, along with dedicated lab management space. All labs and debrief rooms are equipped with cameras, speakers, and microphones and acoustically separated to support privacy.
The result is a controlled, flexible setting that supports the recruitment and retention of talented faculty and graduate students, enriching education and training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students. It will also aid Asper faculty and graduate students in elevating the quality and quantity of their research for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
