At Stantec, we take a forward-looking, sustainable approach that delivers impactful and enduring designs. The Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, stands as an example of this.
The Avenir Centre is an 8,800 seat, world-class entertainment venue that serves as home to the Moncton Wildcats, a team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. High urban density was a challenge during site selection and the City of Moncton knew they would need to make the most of available space. The City partnered with our team to prepare a design that offered maximum benefits within a minimal footprint. The result? We were able to place the Avenir Centre in a prime downtown location and to include a vibrant public plaza with adaptable, year-round functionality. Residents and visitors enjoy a circular ice rink ensconced by sculptures all winter. That same space transforms into an outdoor music and community space with native plants and grasses in the warmer months.
The Avenir Centre is more than a sports and music venue or a gathering place: it’s a work of art. Now complete, this project has been recognized with Green Globes for sustainable design—it’s 50% more efficient than other buildings of its size.
