Blatchford - Stage 1 Legal Survey

Before the former site of Edmonton’s municipal airport can be developed into a retail, housing, and business hub for the area, the important work of legal surveying has to measure and divide the land into lots and titles. Then our client and builders can move forward with creating a new community.

This project carved out a 6.7-hectare section that will include 52 residential lots, six multi-family sites, and two private parks that will incorporate the historic flight control tower.

Blatchford Field was Canada’s first licensed airfield, and at one point was the busiest airfield in North America. Many critical survey monuments had been destroyed, so much of our earlier survey efforts involved exposing remaining monuments to re-establish the site boundaries. Through careful research and consultation with Alberta Land Titles, we provided a clean title by removing unnecessary interests that had accumulated over the site’s 90 years of service.

Blatchford Stage 1 is a unique site with many exclusive design elements. It incorporates low-impact developments, a district energy system, parks with community gardens, and public access. Along with standard agreements for utilities, we also prepared easements and restrictive covenants to protect and enable these unique designs.
