Using underwater fiber optic cables to better enhance broadband communication

When the municipality of Îles-de-la-Madeleine was looking to implement a broadband network project, members of RICEIM (Integrated Telecommunications Network of Madelein Island) and Delaney Consultations brought our team in to develop the business plan and studies.

In this almost $18M project, our role was engineering and consulting services. Among other things, we helped prepare the business plans and funding requests to government authorities; validate final architecture and recommendations; prepare client scope documents and calls for tenders; provide supervision and acceptance of work; draft inspection reports; and carry out transmission testing of cables.

This project added two underwater fiber optic cables that delivered a broadband telecommunication network, connecting the islands with the continent. Now, the municipality of Îles-de-la-Madeleine and the Îles-de-la-Madeleine schoolboard are better connected and better served with broadband access.
