A light rail transit system that embraces neighboring beauty

The Canada Line is a fully automated, driverless light rail transit system connecting Vancouver to the airport and Richmond City Centre. Wanting to highlight the beauty and unique character of the surrounding area, TranskLink brought on signature architects to capture that within their stations.

With that philosophy in mind, we went to work on the Olympic Village SkyTrain Station. We provided full architectural design and construction to embody the station with the spirit of the water’s edge community to which it is central. Located near the original shore line of False Creek, the station entry pavilion recalls the creek’s industrial past, while addressing the beauty of the evolving seaside urbanism that presently enjoys the area. Commuters are greeted by a simple wood framed roof. As they descend into the station in the slot between concrete walls, the transition is enhanced by a large skylight over the base of the stairs.

Bus routes stop outside of the station, linking several modes of transportation, from buses to a bicycle route and a variety of pedestrian access routes – alleviating congestion and pollution by reducing reliance on the automobile.
