City of Winnipeg Transit Master Plan

In anticipation of intergovernmental funding agreements, Winnipeg Transit was looking to chart its course for the next 25 years in an integrated master plan for conventional, specialized, and rapid transit service, and the infrastructure required to enable and support them.

Selected to develop the transit master plan, our team used transit and location-based data to identify travel patterns throughout the city. Using origin-destination data from 1,152 traffic analysis zones and 25 million data points for home, work, and transient locations, we created visualization tools illustrating population movements. We then related the movements to transit ridership, bus stop locations, employment centers, and other key infrastructure to develop strategies and recommendations. Our data scientists created a visual dashboard for our client and the stakeholder committee's use during the planning process. Users could select any line segment to retrieve the number of device sightings on a given day by time, season, and social demographics.

Using a multidisciplinary approach with input from subject matter experts across North America, our team coordinated this fast-paced reimagining of Winnipeg’s transit system to deliver a master plan for integrating a rapid transit network.
