This landfill can help power thousands of homes while reducing methane emissions
The Edmonton Waste Management Centre’s landfill gas collecting plant, Clover Bar, had an opportunity to become North America’s first industrial-scale facility producing biofuels from municipal solid waste. But to do that, they had to modify the existing facility and add three reciprocating engines plus associated generators. Our job? Engineering design and project management.
Our team was responsible for the technical direction and applicable standards conformance. We sourced design efforts to meet the schedule, completed the financial and schedule reporting, and led the tender, evaluation, and recommendation for the supply of power equipment and construction labor. The work included the engineering and design of gas compressors/blowers and demolition of the existing electrical instrument and control systems. With programmable logic controllers and graphical interfaces, we improved the functionality and safety of the plant.
The result? Enough energy to power approximately 4,600 Edmonton homes every year.
