Shaping the future of education

For Thunder Bay, designing and building a leading-edge technology instruction and innovation centre on the Confederation College campus has a far-reaching impact on community life—it’s a way to build for the future and draw students, researchers and instructors into the community. We provided architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture services, along with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering design.

This was a fast-tracked, design build project on a short-timeline that required a staged construction package submission. To meet challenging timelines, the design team worked efficiently and collaboratively through an integrated project delivery method with both the builder and the owner. Our team met bi-weekly with the owner and the contractor to develop a responsive and economical approach to satisfy program needs. Care and attention was also given to sensitive environmental conditions including working with the Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority to manage water levels of the McIntyre River.

This building project was successfully completed in time for the start of the 2018 school year and will serve to integrate the expanded curriculum program delivery of Confederation College with the adjacent Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre and greater community at large.
