Crowe Bay Dam Rehabilitation

Restoring a century-old dam while maintaining the site’s heritage value

Century-old 185-metre dam rehabilitated and improved

Located in Campbellford, Ontario, the Crowe Bay dam is a concrete gravity structure built over a hundred years ago. The facility produces hydro-electric power, but there is also boating through its lock. Work was required on the century-old dam to restore the structure, increase its discharge capacity, protect the dikes from erosion and replace the bridge.

Our multidisciplinary team included experts in hydraulics and geotechnical, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering. We carried out the inspections and studies required for the infrastructure upgrades, then produced plans and specifications and supervised the work and impoundment.

The project had to take some constraints into account: electricity production had to be maintained at all times, Parks Canada’s boating schedule and standards had to be met and the site’s heritage value had to be preserved taking into account the architectural style.
