Desjardins Sports Complex
In an effort to improve the quality of life of its citizens and to support local athletes, the City of Rimouski built a new multi-use sports complex.
For this project, our Buildings Engineering team designed the electromechanical systems. The facility integrates the latest technologies, making it the most energy-efficient building of its kind in Quebec. This 14,000-square-metre building is powered using only renewable energy: geothermal energy and heat recovered from electromechanical systems provide heating and cooling, while the building is powered by local hydroelectric plants and wind turbines. More than a kilometre of piping had to be installed to access thermal energy generated in the Earth to power geothermal systems. The pool filters are cleaned using an air scouring process, thus saving 1.2 million litres of water each year.
The new Desjardins Sports Complex offers residents of the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie regions a state-of-the-art facility to practice physical activity.
