Enbridge Gaz Québec Hydrogen Pipeline Engineering Design

The Enbridge Gaz Québec hydrogen pipeline project is a first-of-its-kind initiative to lower emissions from the regional energy infrastructure. Enbridge Gaz Québec engaged us to design and engineer the pipeline, which blends green hydrogen into the existing natural gas network—helping Québec meet clean energy goals. Our services include process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control, civil, and structural engineering as well as architecture and environmental permitting.

Hydrogen that meets strict quality standards arrives from a certified supplier at a receiving station equipped with filtration, gas analysis, and precision metering systems. From there, a dedicated pipeline carries the hydrogen to a blending station, where it is mixed with natural gas. This blended gas then flows into the city’s distribution network, reducing carbon emissions.

Our team is leading the design and engineering for the receiving and blending stations including filtration, metering, blending skids, and vent stacks. We are also designing the 20-kilometer (12-mile) pipeline connecting the stations. To safely design hydrogen infrastructure, careful planning is required. Our engineers selected materials suited to hydrogen’s unique properties and designed systems for precise flow control. We also supported environmental assessments and are helping to secure all necessary regulatory approvals.

This project positions Enbridge Gaz Québec as a leader in renewable gas innovation and offers a scalable model for hydrogen blending across North America.
