Enhancing the capabilities of Edmonton Transit through technology
When you provide a service more than 89 million times each year, a clear operating picture becomes critical. With the Light Rail Transit (LRT)’s planned expansion, Edmonton Transit System (ETS) had to improve their LRT control center facilities and turned to us.
Our information and communication technologies team provided audiovisual and communications system design, implementing new technology systems and advanced video wall processing, to improve operators’ situational awareness. The video management system, a first of its kind in Canada, allows authorized users on the ETS network to view video, from any desktop or mobile device, on over 4,000 transit facility cameras.
As part of the center’s improvements, we worked closely with ETS to update their workspace, providing complete design services and transforming an outdated call center into a refreshed and modernized purpose-built facility.
Through a collaborative relationship with the city, our cross-disciplinary team helped create a new facility that supports a growing transportation network and is the heart of all ETS activity. In it, operators safely and efficiently maintain constant, real-time surveillance of nearly 800 transit vehicles in 24/7 operation across Edmonton.
