Master planning one of North America’s fastest growing ports

For nearly 20 years, our team of port specialists has been supporting DP World and the Prince Rupert Port Authority with the design and development of the Fairview container terminal. We began studies and preparation in 2012 for the Phase 2 (North) expansion environmental application, securing all federal and provincial regulatory approvals and permits, and later providing inspections for Phase 2A construction.

As part of the Phase 2B goals, we developed terminal expansion concept alternatives for a third berth, container yard expansion, intermodal yard reconfiguration, and new terminal buildings with parking and ancillary facilities. After that, we completed a feasibility study and final terminal master planning. This included real-time peak terminal simulations and detailed master plans of the preferred alternative so the operating layout could achieve a throughput capacity of 2.45 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) per year.

Next, we led the development of preliminary design drawings, capital budget cost estimates, project schedules, risk management strategies, and a geotechnical investigation program.

Most recently, we were awarded the Stage 1B owner’s engineer (OE) contract to provide multidisciplinary OE services for the design build works.
