Fairview Cove Container Terminal Expansion

To maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of their operations, Fairview Cove Terminal embarked on numerous projects over five years to increase fluidity, cut congestion, and handle cargo volumes more quickly. Having provided engineering services for over 30 years at Fairview Cove, we were there to help.

Recently, our environmental group completed an environmental assessment and related permitting for a proposed marine infilling project in Halifax Harbour. Environmental permitting and planning were completed along with various environmental investigations, including underwater marine benthic habitat surveys, a marine sediment sampling program, and an archaeological impact study. We incorporated one of the deepest concrete caissons in the Halifax Harbour and Atlantic Canada. The concrete caisson was slip formed and then floated to a specific dredged location. Once in place, the caisson was ballasted with sea water to sink to its preferred depth, placed on a flat level prepared base at the harbor floor, and then ballasted with rock to provide stability.

Now complete, the Terminal can accommodate ultra large, post-New Panamax cargo vessels.
