Grand-Pré National Historic Site Church and Monuments Restoration

The Grand-Pré National Historic Site is home to the Commemorative Church, a classified federal heritage building, and several monuments dedicated to local history and culture. Parks Canada Agency selected our team to provide pre-design services, construction documents, and tender and construction administration services for repair and restoration of the church and three monuments on the site, as well as one monument at Horton Landing.

Prior to undertaking the design work, we reviewed historic documentation, assessed the areas for restoration, and carefully recorded existing conditions in order to develop sensitive solutions that respected the heritage character and materials of the church and monuments. The project scope included rehabilitation and repair of the commemorative church’s stone masonry, restoration of wooden components, and copper gutter replacement. Our interventions for the stone monuments ranged from careful dismantling and rebuilding to repairing in place with compatible materials.

Now complete, the church and monuments will remain a familiar and symbolic landmark to both residents and visiting tourists for years to come.
