Grays Bay Road and Port - Engineering and Environmental Consulting
The Grays Bay Road and Port project will link the Canadian Arctic, providing road access from southern Canada to the Kitikmeot. The first phase of this vital corridor will connect a deepwater port in the center of the Northwest Passage to Contwoyto Lake—the northern terminus of the Tibbit to Contwoyto winter road. When combined with the Slave Geological Province Corridor project, it will provide all-season road access from southern Canada to the Coronation Gulf.
Through our Inuit-owned partnership, Nunami Stantec Limited, we’ve supported this project since 2016 as engineering and environmental consultants. We’re supporting West Kitikmeot Resources Corp, an Inuit-owned, Inuit-led company, in preparing the impact statement evaluating the project’s potential effects on the natural and human environment. The Nunavut Impact Review Board will use the statement to make a decision on whether to approve the project. Our work with the Inuit Advisory Group and local communities fosters meaningful dialogue with Elders, Knowledge Holders, and land users of the Kitikmeot region with the goal of presenting an impact statement from an Inuit perspective.
A transformational nation-building transportation infrastructure project, the Grays Bay Road and Port project will benefit Indigenous peoples, Nunavummiut, and all Canadians. When complete, it will form part of the Arctic Security Corridor, strengthening Inuit and Canadian sovereignty, enhancing trade and development opportunities for Kitikmeot beneficiaries, and unlocking Canada’s critical mineral wealth.
