One hundred and thirty light industrial buildings. Great West Life Realty Advisors (GWLRA) had to reduce operating costs, drive performance improvements, and showcase socially and environmentally responsible real estate management—to make those buildings more than a number.

The BOMA BEST (Building Environmental Standards) certification serves as a benchmarking tool, comparing a building against other facilities of similar size and class (in Canada). It helps owners understand their facility’s performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. We were the third-party consultants that facilitated the assessment and certification—plus provided services for outstanding technical services.

Two services were required. We conducted energy assessments and developed tenant communication strategies. After the completion of our services and BOMA on-site verifications, the 130 GWLRA buildings achieved level 1, 2, and 3 certifications. Yes, these properties were excellent. We shored up a few things, filled in some missing bits, but those buildings had the right bones. Now, GWLRA, their clients, and the communities know the quality of the buildings they have.
