SemCAMS is one of Canada’s largest sour gas processors. The company owns and operates four plants in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. In 2013, SemCAMS forecasted looming processing problems at one of its plants, the Kaybob South #3 (K3) facility. Originally constructed in 1970, the K3 facility had been modified and retrofitted over the years to accommodate inlet and processing changes. But, in 2013, SemCAMS expected that average flow rate at K3 was going to increase to levels the facility wouldn’t be able to handle. A bottleneck was imminent.
For help, SemCAMS turned to Stantec. With our successful record of brownfield retrofit projects in the region, SemCAMS chose us to provide engineering, design, and procurement services to support their K3 facility Inlet Liquid Debottleneck project.
Our team reviewed the existing processing equipment and confirmed that the forecasted flow volumes would create operational difficulties. Ultimately, the K3 Inlet Liquid Debottleneck project was schedule-driven to meet specific business drivers and our team rose to the challenge. We met all milestone dates and issued the mechanical IFC work package on time and under budget.
