Combining project statistics with 3D models in an easy-to-use interface
Drawings, our usual deliverable as architects, are ultimately meant to help the contractor build the building. They aren’t really intended for the client. Instead, clients are more interested in complying with city requirements, particularly on large re-zonings where extensive negotiations have taken place.
On the City of Lougheed project—the transformation of an existing shopping mall into a dense, mixed-use city center—we’re completing the design of a 68-story, architecturally-iconic tower. This is an excellent example of a complex development with an incredible amount of data to be tracked and managed. Our project management dashboard monitors the client’s pro forma requirements including unit mix and sizes, parking (counts, type, and efficiency), and retail-level efficiency. And the client can take that information directly to the City on a single sheet (view example).
The data visualization dashboard is accessible through Microsoft 365, which means it can be reviewed at any time through any device with a web browser—no special hardware or software required. Clients can evaluate progress, view the models, and review geometry metadata, all on their smart phone or tablet. And the result? More time for our teams to focus on design with a more engaged client, and less time managing statistics.
