Montreal Subway’s AZUR Cars

In its subway network modernization plan, the Montreal Transit Corporation (STM) wanted to update its fleet of cars, a number of which dated back to the network’s 1966 inauguration. The STM partnered with Groupement DST, led by Stantec, to accompany them in this massive endeavor.

Our team managed and provided technical expertise for numerous projects developed in parallel—ensuring the integration and operation of the new trains. New equipment was purchased and training programs developed including a full-scope simulator for operators.

No aspect of the design was left to chance, and commuters’ needs were at the center of the project. Beyond its ergonomic seating and panoramic windows, the AZUR trains stand out for their larger, obstruction-detecting smart doors and improved ventilation.

Since 2016, commuters have enjoyed the benefits of these ultra-modern, ecological, and comfortable AZUR trains—trains that are leading the industry with their cutting-edge technology. The final tally? A total of 54 trains (486 cars) in service.
