An asset management partnership with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario grew out of one project in 1998

In 1998, we developed and provided implementation support for a pavement management system for Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation. The goal? To efficiently access pavement-related data, assess pavement needs, and plan for future upgrades. This work developed into a decades-long relationship and gave us a comprehensive understanding of the Ministry’s operating needs. As a result—when they wanted a system that could give them better information about their other assets—they asked us to develop a tailored asset management system (AMS).

The optimized and tailored AMS that our team developed facilitates all budgeting and investment planning for 34,600 kilometers of roads and over 3,000 bridges and culverts. The Ministry can run performance and budgeting analyses on the AMS system, which gives them insight into how the budgeting decisions they make affect the performance of their assets.

The system provides the Ministry with a centralized system of record for their asset attributes and performance parameters. That means better informed decisions and more efficient planning. We’re continuing to support the Ministry by helping them maintain their system, leading to accurate performance predictions, analysis, and calibrated maintenance and rehabilitation strategies.
