Memorial University of Newfoundland - Faculty of Medicine Expansion

The expanded Faculty of Medicine space has been designed to serve the faculty’s new and more progressively engaged, problem based, spiral curriculum. The advanced facility accommodates for an approximate 33 percent increase in medical student registration and will serve to stabilize Newfoundland and Labrador’s physician resources.

We worked with NORR Limited to complete programming for the expansion, while simultaneously starting programming for the new Genetics Research Centre. The team recognized opportunities for students, caregivers, and researchers to collaborate if the two projects were to merge, along with significant building cost savings for clients.

Key features of the Faculty of Medicine space include 15 seminar learning rooms, a 20 room standardized patient training and testing facility, a four unit patient simulation and surgical training center, 2,100 seat lecture theatres as well as single floor consolidation of all the faculty administration and management, including all dean and sub-dean divisions.

The Genetics Research Centre provides a modern research space to accommodate world-class advancements in genetic and genomic research. Vital to this facility are wet and dry lab research spaces, a biobank for specimen storage and control, laboratories for technology development, as well as a major research data centre.
