NE LRT Extension – Contract 3

Professionals in transportation planning and design, structural engineering, track design, utility design, electrical design, and construction administration work together behind the scenes to get citizens where they need to be. Our objective was to create a connection from Westwinds Station to Saddletown Station without affecting traffic on 64 Avenue Northeast. We achieved our goal by tunneling under the roadway, allowing free flow Light Rail Transit (LRT) access.

We needed a greater amount of clearance between the tunnel and the 64 Avenue interchange and achieved this by raising the roadway and depressing the tunnel. 700 metres of retaining wall was added, new drainage facilities were developed, and approximately 500 metres of track bed was also installed. Metis Trail was also realigned to accommodate the LRT alignment.

By working closely with The City of Calgary, we provided the final link connecting Calgarians to Westwinds Station and Saddletowne Circle Northeast.
