3D modeled to maintain accuracy
Working closely with the client, our team helped define the process flow through the greenfield facility, developing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process narratives to guide the design of the facility. Utilities design included hot/cold glycol, refrigeration, nitrogen, compressed air, de-ionized water, and clean-in-place systems.
Detailed equipment and piping layouts followed. Functioning as the owner's engineer on many building related issues, we reviewed vendor submissions of equipment drawings to ensure designs would integrate into the overall plant design. We also coordinated with the building contractor to ensure proper fit and flow of the work areas. All piping and equipment was designed to meet 3A Sanitary standards. The entire plant design was modeled in 3D using PDS software. The 3D model was a highly-effective tool used by all contractors working on the project throughout all phases of design.
The accuracy of the model allowed for all sanitary piping to be spooled offsite and then brought onsite for final fit and trim—rare in sanitary process plants where the majority of the sanitary piping is field run using only P&IDs.
