Looking to improve healthcare and mental wellness services for the community of Old Crow, the Government of Yukon’s Department of Highways and Public Works set out to construct a two-story housing unit and health and wellness center. We served as the owner’s advisor for this project.
Our scope of work was divided into four phases. First, we created a functional program for each facility that provided the foundation for design, procurement, and construction of the project. Next, we completed the owner’s statement of requirements (SOR), costing confirmation, and the conceptual design that was informed by the functional program. We also assisted the Department through the tendering process and provided construction administration services, verifying construction progress against the SOR. We then worked with the design builder to keep the project on track.
The new health and wellness center includes updated health and mental care services in a larger facility with a healing room for community use. The building incorporates visibility and transparency, inclusive design, energy efficiency, and a welcoming and unintimidating environment for visitors and employees.
The 10-plex facility provides a temporary residence for healthcare personnel along with housing for the community. The building’s design centers around energy efficiency, low maintenance, security, and increased occupant comfort, daylighting, and views.
Now complete, this project supports housing availability and government service delivery in Old Crow. It provides culturally appropriate and inclusive spaces that support the health, well-being, and growth of the community.
