Our geotechnical team remains at the forefront of the industry

The Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (now Nutrien) was the world’s largest producer of potash—a key component in crop fertilizer. When they needed a new storage facility to protect their product from the elements before being shipped to international markets, we were brought in to look at suitable excavation methods.

The project started off with a site investigation in the area where deep excavations were proposed. Our team drilled 12 boreholes and testpits with depths ranging from 0.3 metres to 9.1 metres. The recovered soil samples were sent to the National Testing Laboratories for geotechnical classification and testing. After analysis, we were able to provide the client with recommendations for suitable excavation methods and temporary groundwater control.

With our comprehensive geotechnical engineering and construction services—including quality assurance and quality control services as well as field services—the project was sure to be built on solid ground, and the potash supply was sure to be safely stored before moving to market.
