Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada - Office Building Addition

To improve the work environment of their high security campus in the National Capital Region, Public Works and Government Services Canada, on behalf of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada, tasked Stantec and J.L. Richards with designing a 5 storey, 75,000 SF office building expansion. With the new addition, the client sought to not only enhance the Agency’s image, but also to create an efficient, flexible and secure workspace.

The expansion is comprised of a new office block sitting atop an expanded podium. A full height daylight filled galleria space connects the new addition to the existing building as well as the existing atrium space creating a positive sense of community. The lower floor of the galleria offers café and conference space promoting interaction and synergy.

A variety of sustainable design strategies were employed including use of local, recycled, rapidly renewable and low VOC materials, an improved envelope design, daylight and occupancy sensors, low voltage fixtures, solar shading, and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
