North Red Deer Regional Wastewater System

The City of Lacombe, Lacombe County, and the Town of Blackfalds are communities in Central Alberta experiencing continued growth; however, they were at capacity with their existing wastewater treatment infrastructure. Any additional growth would place incremental strain on the system.

The North Red Deer Regional Wastewater Services Commission engaged us to design a regional wastewater system capable of connecting the three communities to the City of Red Deer Wastewater Treatment Plant. We were also responsible for detailed environmental studies to help minimize impact to the environment as well as land assembly for a right-of-way, and topographic and legal survey services. Our team executed a utility rate analysis, forecasting, and implemented a fully integrated supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and communications system to remotely monitor and control the operations. Wastewater will be conveyed through the regional pipeline by two new lift stations, and a technologically advanced management facility was implemented to treat both the liquid and vapour phase odours.

Upon project completion, the Lacombe County Reeve Paula Law stated the system highlights the importance of strong relationships between municipal neighbors and makes life better for residents and businesses in Central Alberta.
