Specialized Services for Children and Youth (SSCY)

Through this design project, the Christie’s Biscuit Factory has become the new home to Specialized Services for Children and Youth (SSCY). We provided interior design services for the implementation of this healthcare centre that brings a range of non-acute health services into one fully accessible two-story building.

The project was a collaboration of several pediatric special needs health agencies from four existing locations within the city and involved consolidating them all under one roof. The interior of the building is designed to be children friendly and to provide accessibility and comfort for kids with disabilities or special needs. Incorporating various health care services and professional assistant centres were key elements in the design—by addressing the concerns of children and their health, we wanted to create an open, navigable, friendly, safe, and fun environment to the children and their families.

Working closely with community service providers and healthcare professionals, we were able to integrate their ideas into the creation and design of the facility. The result? An innovative healthcare building for kids to feel safe and taken care of.
