Creating a modern shopping environment
Originally built in 1980, St. Albert Centre, home to over 80 retailers, responded to tenant demands to be a premier shopping centre. Primaris Retail Management hired our team for a 117,000 square foot renovation.
Branding and mall signage considerations were key in the mall renovation in order to establish a strong identity and increase visibility from the nearby St. Albert Trail. Our team developed an eye-catching mall entrance concept constituted of a rectilinear glazed massing with a pylon containing a backlit relief graphic—also used to inspire the rest of the mall re-branding. The new contemporary exterior visibly engages potential visitors and invites them in. Once inside, a new circular layout allows for double the common areas, with comfortable lounge-like seating, and a 650-person food court with 33-foot-high ceilings with clerestory windows to offer guests natural light and year-round sunshine. Together, these elements and clean contemporary finishes create a modernized and biologic atmosphere that entices guests to stay longer.
St. Albert Centre now provides guests with an enhanced shopping experience, ultimately increasing patronage, and growing revenue for leaseholders. Upon completion, we were hired to complete subsequent phases of work, including further renovation.
