Blackfoot legend of Strathcona Park: where water spirits came to breathe

Strathcona Island Playground Upgrade

The Blackfoot tale describing the origins of Medicine Hat on the Strathcona Park location provided the inspiration for the park design. The play equipment and themed activities throughout the park incorporates the work of local artists. The existing mature tree canopy that surrounds the site was kept to create a space where families can comfortably enjoy a hot summer’s day within the city’s core.

Our team designed the playground and water spray park for children of all needs and abilities. All children are able to access the park for play regardless of their mobility. All of the surfaces and equipment were selected for wheelchair accessibility, and also to encourage participation for children with various types of physical and sensory impairments.

Every detail of safety was considered in the design. From the equipment to new water and sanitary services that were upgraded to meet safety and environmental regulations.
