Technical Advisory Services for Bowmanville Rail Expansion

When Metrolinx’s GO Transit was expanding their service to extend 20 kilometres (12.4 miles) along the Lakeshore East rail corridor, they looked to our team for help. Our job? To provide technical advisory, design, and construction support services, while also managing the transit project assessment process.

This project involves the extension of Metrolinx’s Lakeshore East corridor through a connection to, and expansion of, the CP Belleville subdivision. During development of the preliminary and detailed designs, our designers first set the alignment of the two proposed GO Transit mainline tracks to confirm that crossings of existing infrastructure would be in desirable locations and, in the case of grade separation structures, at favorable angles to the underlying roadway.

After developing the required grading and civil designs to support those proposed track alignments, our designers then analyzed how the proposed grading and required civil infrastructure would impact adjacent properties. As the preliminary design process continued, our team coordinated with each stakeholder on an individual basis to discuss design issues. Moving forward, our team will reconvene the technical advisory committee at each design milestone to provide information regarding the design.

Upon completion, this project will ultimately reduce travel times, provide fast, reliable train services, and create stronger connections throughout the region.
